Dołącz do tysięcy zaangażowanych – porozmawiaj!

Wraz z aktywistkami i aktywistami Akcji Demokracji rozdawałem ulotki o szkodliwych działaniach PZU i rozmawiałem z ludźmi. Spotkałem klientów PZU i pracowników tej firmy. Ciągle pamiętam jedną z rozmów. Zdziwienie i złość pracownicy PZU, że jej pracodawca chce ubezpieczać truciciela, zagrażającego zdrowiu całej jej rodziny. Obiecała, że spojrzy na apel. Odbyliśmy kilkadziesiąt takich rozmów. I dały one rezultat! Licznik podpisów pod apelem nabrał jeszcze większego tempa.

Bez mojego i Twojego bezpośredniego działania powstanie kolejna trująca elektrownia węglowa. Pokaż link do apelu.

Wydrukuj ją i porozmawiaj z trzema znajomymi osobami.

Wydrukuj ulotkę i porozmawiaj z trzema osobami.

POROZMAWIAM!

Pozdrawiam,

Piotr Antoniewicz z Akcji Demokracji

Znajdziesz go tutaj.

We're so close

We’re so close to getting strict new EU anti-plastic rules that make corporations pay for the damage they cause. It could happen in days – can you chip in to buy a high-profile ad aimed at influential government ministers?

H

There’s only 17 days left until a huge decision on plastic pollution. Will it mean sparkling seas full of life or more drowning in plastic?

Strong new European anti-plastics rules are so close – they would make polluting corporations pay for the damage they do to birds, fish, whales – and humans!

But there’s a risk the new rules could end up weak and worthless because the European Council isn’t fully onboard. How can we persuade the European Council? Simple: target Austria because they hold the EU presidency right now.

If enough of us from the WeMove community chip in, we can take out a high-profile ad in Kronen Zeitung, a prominent journal read by many Austrian government ministers. Can you donate to demand Austria take the lead on plastic pollution?

Yes, I can chip in €8
Yes, I can chip in €15
Yes, I can chip in €30
Yes, I’ll surprise you!
I can’t donate

If we can persuade Austria to back strong anti-plastic rules, it could help move the entire Council’s policy – and lead to the win we need for the ocean! Austria currently holds the EU presidency so they are in charge of making agendas, organising negotiations and setting the tone.

When Austrian ministers open their favourite journal we want them to see an ad they can’t miss, demanding they get onboard for clean oceans and beaches. It’s part of getting our message everywhere to shape the debate.

Ministers need to feel the pressure growing, not fading away. We have to move fast if we’re going to book the advertising space – can you help?

Yes, I can chip in €8
Yes, I can chip in €15
Yes, I can chip in €30
Yes, I’ll surprise you!
I can’t donate

We’re so close to a historic victory. It’s the culmination of a long-running campaign for our WeMove community. Hundreds of thousands of us have signed the petition for stronger European anti-plastics rules.

We’ve emailed our MEPs, put massive ads on billboards across Brussels and together, we’ve worked closely with partners to pool our strengths and ensure the best strategy. It worked – the Commission proposed strong new anti-plastics laws and the European Parliament voted to support them.

Now we just need to get the European Council onboard for oceans. We can do it with a hard-hitting ad that targets the government holding the EU presidency – Austria.

Chip in now.

Thanks for moving Europe with us,
Mika (Bordeaux), Jörg (Lübeck), Virginia (Madrid), and the rest of us at WeMove.EU

Yes to prosperity, no to economic growth

This petition was launched on our YouMove platform by the European Environmental Bureau. We think you might be interested in it.

Hi

Growth, growth, growth - you probably recognise the mantra of politicians and economists all over the world. Yet, greedy growth neither creates welfare nor wellbeing for those who need it most. Instead, it makes the rich even richer and cooks the planet. Over the last four decades the 1% of the richest people captured over 25% of the world’s economic growth, while the average European has seen virtually no increase in their real income. [1]

Science says: prosperity without greedy growth is possible! Scientists are telling EU leaders that welfare for all can be chosen over growth for the super-rich. Join 238 economists in demanding that EU politicians vastly improve the distribution of wealth, rather than pursue greedy growth on a finite planet. [2]

Very soon, a major EU conference about “growth in transition” will take place in Vienna. It’s a flagship event for Austria’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union. At the conference, the scientists will give their letter about ending Europe’s growth dependency to Frans Timmermans, the second most important person in the European Commission. Timmermans wants to become the president of the European Commission next year. He has to know that Europeans won’t support him if he fails to defend our prosperity and commit to ditch the fetish of “growth”.

Say yes to prosperity, say no to greedy growth. Sign the petition!

Greedy growth doesn’t provide the kind of jobs people want. Greedy growth is pushing people and planet to burnout. We need to stop sacrificing the environment and people on the altar of GDP growth: stop destroying forests, polluting our land and water, lengthening working times and degrading social protections.

Solving social problems does not require more growth: even a slightly fairer distribution of the massive wealth we already have can double the income of the poorest 50% of the population by 2050. [3] More radical fairness could eradicate poverty altogether.

The scientists have come up with four immediate, concrete measures which can move Europe away from growth, and guarantee well-being, employment and stability for all of us. They have already been joined in their ask by EEB, the EU’s oldest and largest environmental non-governmental network, and a major trade union. Abandoning the fetish of growth at all cost is in the interest of everyone: from workers to environmentalists. Let Timmermans know that Europeans also want to leave it behind.

Support 238 scientists. Sign the letter!

The letter by 238 economists, natural and social scientists was published in dozens of media outlets across Europe, just one day before a historic meeting in the European Parliament. [4] Last month, no less than five different political groups organised a huge conference about how we can get to a positive post-growth future. It was there that the letter received the official support of ACV, the largest Belgian trade union with 1.7 million members, as well as of parliamentarians, environmentalists and youth groups.

In Vienna, we want Frans Timmermans to commit to the demands in the letter. With our signatures, the scientists, the environmentalists and the trade unionists will have an extra argument to convince him!

Our community has engaged in dozens of successful actions against corporations and governments to protect our shared environment and improve working conditions. But individual fights are not enough! We must force politicians to change their entire way of thinking about the economy and the environment. After all, there are no jobs on a dead planet.

Thank you!

Mika (Bordeaux), Marta (Warsaw), Alexandre (Marseille) and the entire WeMove.EU team

PS: Economic growth in Europe has been diminishing. If current trends continue, there may be no growth at all in Europe within a decade. To fuel growth at all costs, politicians issue more debt, shred environmental regulations, extend working hours, and cut social protections. The pursuit of growth divides society, destabilises economies, and undermines democracy. Tell politicians to pursue our well-being, not greedy growth: Sign now!

The EU is listening on pesticides

Next week the European Parliament is voting on legislation that could improve transparency in our food system and stop glyphosate for good! But the lead MEP responsible for the law is promoting amendments that put industry before citizens. Let’s show our representatives that we want to protect food safety, not industry secrets!

H

Next week, the full European Parliament will vote on legislation that could result in the toxic weedkiller glyphosate becoming banned in the EU, by making previously-secret industry studies available to the public. [1]

During our struggle to ban glyphosate last year, scientific studies were key. The pesticide industry said it had studies demonstrating that glyphosate was "safe” - but kept them secret from citizens and independent scientists alike. The EU allowed the use of glyphosate for another five years - on the basis of these secret industry studies. [2]

Last week Members of the European Parliament's Environment Committee voted on legislation that would end this kind of secrecy. The votes were extremely tight because industry players have been lobbying our MEPs hard to derail the proposal. They want to keep full control over these studies, and to delay their publication until the EU evaluation is done! Now it’s time for the full Parliament to vote: If all of us join the call, we can still tip the scale in safety’s favour.

This is our last chance in the European Parliament, so we’re asking your help to take this campaign all the way to the end. Last week, the WeMove community inundated MEPs with messages demonstrating widespread support for transparency in our food system. From MEP responses and the votes in the Environment Committee, we could see the impact we had together. Now we need a final push to make clear to all MEPs: with European elections right around the corner, MEPs need to protect food safety for citizens, not secrets for multinational corporations.

Sign now for transparency in our food system

The proposed change to the General Food Law regulation is an ambitious departure from the industry-favoured procedures that currently exist in the EU. If this legislation passes, we’ll finally have the tools to challenge the likes of Monsanto – now Bayer – when glyphosate and other dangerous chemicals come up for approval in the EU.

This change didn’t come about by itself - it’s a direct response to the European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI) to ban glyphosate, which our community worked tirelessly for last year. One of the demands was to “ensure that the scientific evaluation of pesticides for EU regulatory approval is based only on published studies...” [3]

After our huge mobilisation, the EU wants to show that it’s responsive to citizens’ demands on transparency and food safety. But is it really? The Commission has proposed revising the General Food Law, but MEPs also need to vote to support it. [4] However, some MEPs are still swayed by industry. Let’s show them that we are still here, and that we will be watching this vote closely. If they vote for industry and against citizens, we will not forget when it’s time for us to vote in next year’s elections!

Sign to protect food system, not industry secrets!

It’s been over two years since our community began a massive EU-wide campaign to stop glyphosate. Since then, we’ve shifted the debate throughout Europe, achieved further restrictions on glyphosate in a number of EU countries, and kept industry on its toes. [5] If we can get this piece of legislation passed, we’ll have far more tools to oppose glyphosate and other dodgy chemicals entering our food chain in the future.

Thank you for being with us at each stage in this struggle,

Mika (Bordeaux), Jörg (Lübeck), Virginia (Madrid), and the rest of us at WeMove.EU

PS: The next decision on glyphosate is coming up fast. If we win this legislation, we can get the EU to publish the safety tests that Monsanto – now Bayer – will submit next year in order to get the EU’s green light for glyphosate. Once we have these tests, we can hire the best independent scientists to analyse them! If we want to stop glyphosate for good, we need to see the studies that industry wants to keep secret. Sign now to tell your MEPs to vote to do just that.

EU votes to crack down on plastic pollution

Hi

Thanks to you, the EU Parliament just voted to crack down on single-use plastic pollution! The new legislation is not perfect but will help ensure producers are held accountable for the costs of single-use plastic pollution. In short, your voice was louder than the plastics lobby’s. [1]

In the next weeks, national governments will have to take a stand, so we need to keep the pressure up. You’ve already raised your voice, but maybe you know someone who hasn’t spoken up yet.

Need some help motivating your friends and family to get involved? Tell them they’ve got plastic in their poop. Yes, really.Research came out just this week showing that pretty much all of us are pooping plastic. [2]

So send your friends this email and ask them to sign the petition. There’s already over 120,000 of us, but we need their voice to make this win stick.

If you don’t use social networks please feel free to forward this email or copy the link: https://act.wemove.eu/campaigns/eu-single-use-plastic. You can also use the prewritten mail below.

Determined,

Mika (Bordeaux), Jörg (Lübeck), Virginia (Madrid), and the rest of us at WeMove.EU

Hi,

A sperm whale was found dead on a Spanish beach. 29 kilograms of plastic in its stomach blocked its digestive system. This is the fate many fish, turtles, whales, birds, dolphins, and other animals risk daily as our ocean becomes a plastic soup.

Thanks to public outcry, the European Commission proposed a new law to reduce single-use plastics and stem the huge tide of plastic waste. And the EU Parliament voted to support this measure. Unfortunately, some EU countries are likely under pressure from the plastic industry to derail this hopeful proposal for our environment.

But we have momentum on our side. If we keep the pressure up these stronger rules will take effect. Next, the proposal will be discussed by EU national governments. We need them to resist the plastic industry’s lobbying and to support the new rules.

Can you help the campaign by signing too? https://act.wemove.eu/campaigns/eu-single-use-plastic

You can make this tech for good become real

Think of an issue you really care about. And now imagine a politician who’s supposed to represent you, preparing to vote on it in Brussels. They scroll through their phone and see a tweet you posted - urging them to support your cause! Impossible? Together we can make it come true! Help us deliver technology that can make this happen.

Hi

In politics, time is key: an issue of the highest importance can be voted, negotiated, discussed any day. As the European Elections approach, many decisions of great importance taken in Brussels will be made quicker and quicker. We, the citizens of Europe who try to intervene, have to speed up, too. We now have an idea how to do it.

Just like us, politicians have to kill time. In a train or taxi, in the elevator or in a committee, waiting for the important vote. What do they do then? They scroll through Twitter and Facebook. Imagine if we could flood them with messages from their own constituencies right before the key meeting - or even during it! - just as they’re checking their smartphones.

With our amazing technology team, we want to set up an easy-to-use tool to target politicians. But we need more budget for it and projects like it. Will you chip in to help us develop it?

I’ll donate €8
I’ll donate €15
I’ll donate €30
I’ll surprise you
I cannot donate

For most of us, politicians seem very distant, and those in Brussels in particular. We usually don’t even know the names of our representatives in the European Parliament. We let them decide on our rights, our finances, our environment without blinking - because European politics seems so far away and so complicated!

EU politicians must be brought closer to us. What if they were just three clicks away? You give your zip code and we give you the names of the Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) from your constituency. Then you can directly send them a Twitter message or post on their Facebook page - and done!

We roughly estimate that implementing a tool with these exciting functions will cost €15,000. We are a very big community. If only 1,000 of us donate €15 we can make it! If you can afford it and donate €30, we can reach the goal even faster - and can think how to deliver even more.

I’ll donate €8
I’ll donate €15
I’ll donate €30
I’ll surprise you
I cannot donate

In our team, we call the new tool our “MEP contact tool”, because it allows a person from France to reach their French representatives in the European Parliament, and a person from Poland to reach the Polish ones.

But we can be much more ambitious. We can extend the tool so that you will be able to message a member of your national parliament. Or even the director of a local branch of a multinational corporation!

Only two weeks ago we used a similar tool in an important campaign. Thousands of us emailed our local MEPs and urged them to completely ban single-use plastics in Europe. And this is what they voted to do! Now imagine the massive impact we could have if they see all of our messages first in their email, then on Facebook, then on Twitter.

Chip in!

Excited about the new possibilities,

Mika (Bordeaux), Jörg (Lübeck), Virginia (Madrid), and the rest of us at WeMove.EU

PS: Can technology make democracy better? Yes, if it is not owned by big corporations, but by all of us together. All our tech developments are free and open-source, and can be used by anyone. Let us make this too a reality, and we will share it with all of the world. Donate!

Dead end for wolves and eagles

Hi

Watch the eagle fly and the wolf patrol its territory... what amazing scenery. But bulldozers are about to dig their way through this last refuge for those protected species. Two people can still prevent it. Let's show them what they'll destroy if they don’t act now. Watch the video, and then click "Next" or "Sign" on the right to send it to key decision-makers!

A video of the Kresna Gorge

The Bulgarian Transport Minister doesn't care about nature, but the Bulgarian Prime Minister, Bojko Borisov, can easily overrule his decision and move the construction of the motorway to an alternative route. The alternative route is simpler to build, it's safer, and it will better serve those that will use it  and it's the last hope for nature in the Kresna Gorge.

Karmenu Vella is European Commissioner for the Environment. He is supposed to be the supreme guardian of our nature. He can make sure that the Kresna Gorge remains protected by European environmental law.

Right now is the time to act, as there is an important meeting taking place this week that could change everything. [1] Our partners will be there and will present our case  and they'll even show the video below. If we send thousands of messages with the video to the key decision-makers at the same time as the meeting, this could have huge impact.

Watch the video – and then send it to the key decision-makers!

Our video shows the strength of our movement of Europeans. The 3D art you'll see in the video was organised with our partners (Friends of the Earth and the Coalition for Nature Bulgaria) in the heart of Sofia to attract attention to the destruction in the Kresna Gorge. Bulgarian media widely reported our protest and decision-makers in Bulgaria are well aware of our action.

The pressure is already on, and if we come together from all over Europe to save this iconic natural beauty, we can really make a difference. Already 140,000 of us have signed the petition to save Kresna. Let’s keep up the pressure.

Hopeful and inspired by this wonderful video,

Mika (Bordeaux), Jörg (Lübeck), Virginia (Madrid), and the rest of us at WeMove.EU

PS: In May we attended demonstrations in Sofia. People were furious about their politicians selling-off this beautiful piece of nature to investors. Protesters in Bulgaria appreciated our support coming from all corners of Europe  together we can stop this disaster.

Stopping secrecy on pesticides

The European Parliament is debatinglegislation that could both dramatically increase the safety of our food and also protect the environment. But industry players have been lobbying our MEPs to derail the proposal. Let’s show our representatives that we want more transparency, not corporate control!

H

It’s not every day that the European Parliament gets to vote on legislation that could both dramatically increase the safety of our food and also protect the environment. This Tuesday the Parliament’s Environment Committee has a chance to do just that! [1]

The current rules prioritise industry’s interests over the public’s right to know. This is why scientific studies remain secret when a chemical pesticide, GMO, or food preservative comes up for approval in the EU. [2] But independent scientists and NGOs need to see these studies, so they can judge whether the EU evaluations of pesticides and other potentially dangerous chemicals are sound.

Now, Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) are debating legislation that would end this kind of secrecy. But industry players have been lobbying our MEPs hard to derail the proposal. They want to keep full control over these studies, and to delay their publication until the EU evaluation is done!

That’s where we come in. Our community has a brand-new tool that allows us to contact our MEPs. Imagine: if we all do it together, MEPs will be inundated with messages demonstrating widespread support for transparency in our food system. With European elections right around the corner, MEPs won’t be able to ignore our demands.

Tell your MEPs: Don’t keep secrets from your constituents!
It only takes 30 seconds to contact your representative with our new tool.

The proposed change to the General Food Law regulation is an ambitious departure from the industry-favoured procedures that currently exist in the EU. If this legislation passes, we’ll finally have the tools to challenge the likes of Bayer/Monsanto when glyphosate and other dangerous chemicals come up for approval in the EU.

If they vote for industry and against citizens, we will not forget when it’s time for us to vote in next year’s elections.

Tell your MEPs: Vote for transparency in our food system, not corporate control!

Please contact your MEPs to make this legislation a reality. It will only take 30 seconds.

With hope,

Mika (Bordeaux), Jörg (Lübeck), Virginia (Madrid), and the rest of us at WeMove.EU

PS: There are now over 9,300 plaintiffs suing Bayer/Monsanto for health impacts from RoundUp, the top-selling glyphosate-based herbicide. [6] If we want to stop glyphosate for good, we need to see the studies that industry wants to keep secret. Tell your MEPs to vote to do just that.

Wybierzmy nasze postulaty!

To lista zmian i oczekiwań wobec ludzi kandydujących do samorządów.

Zajmie Ci to 5 minut.

Przed wyborami samorządowymi, zespół Akcji Demokracji będzie wspierał lokalne grupy mieszkańców i mieszkanek.

To pierwsze wybory w historii Akcji i pierwsze takie przedsięwzięcie.

Wybory to nasz moment! I to my powinniśmy mieć najwięcej do powiedzenia w tej sprawie.

Opóźni to rozwój czystych, odnawialnych źródeł energii. Kliknij odnośnik poniżej, aby podpisać apel i pomóc powstrzymać budowę Nord Stream 2.

PODPISZ APEL

Pozdrawiam,
Piotr Antoniewicz z Akcji Demokracji

Save starving baby penguins

A colony of Antarctic penguins laid 18 thousand eggs, but only two baby penguins survived – all the others starved to death. EU leaders can protect penguins by creating the world’s biggest ocean sanctuary in the Antarctic.

H

Only two baby penguins from an Antarctic colony survived, out of 18 thousand which recently hatched. The others starved to death because their food supplies have been devastated by industrial fishing. The food chain in the Antarctic has been disturbed by extensive fishing of krill, and many animals don’t get enough nourishment to survive.

In this instance, France, Germany and the European Union have proved to be world leaders in animal protection. They’ve proposed and backed the creation of areas closed for industrial fishing: marine sanctuaries around the Antarctic. [1] However, the fate of the Antarctic isn’t their priority right now, so they are giving in to Chinese and Russian blockage of the proposed Antarctic sanctuary. [2]

In just over 48 hours, Merkel, Maas, Macron, and EU leaders Tusk and Mogherini will attend the UN General Assembly and take part in several bilateral meetings. If we, as their electorate, come together to strengthen our leaders’ position in the negotiations, we can pressure them to prioritise the creation of the sanctuary. Sign now and we’ll make sure your message reaches European Council President Tusk and High Representative of the EU Mogherini at the General Assembly in just a few hours’ time.

There could be a sanctuary in the Antarctic Ocean, a huge space where any fishing will be prohibited. It would allow for the replenishment of krill, a key element of the Antarctic ecosystem – and the food penguins eat. [3]

The krill doesn’t only constitute penguin food. By eating the plankton, they also capture the carbon dioxide from the sea surface and store it in the sea depths where they excrete waste. Thus, the krill protect the entire Earth from the results of the climate change. [4] It is crucial for us to stop the overfishing of krill.

EU leaders Angela Merkel, her Foreign Minister Heiko Maas, Emmanuel Macron, the President of the European Council Donald Tusk, and the EU’s head of diplomacy, Federica Mogherini, play key roles in the negotiation around the Antarctic sanctuaries – not least because these are their own proposals. What is more, there is a chance that Tusk and Mogherini would want to give in to our massive pressure in order to make a good last impression before their terms in Brussels ends in a few months.

By pressing our leaders to stand strong, our European community of action can help the whole world, far beyond our own borders. Together we’ve stood up against multinational pollution beyond Europe’s borders, and we’re already starting to see impact. [5] Sign the petition to ensure baby penguins survive next year.

Thank you for all that you do,

PS: Krill fishing has been a fast-growing industry. The latest fishing technology allows ‘suction’ harvesting of the krill by large trawlers. This technology contributed to the rapid decline of the krill population, estimated to have declined as much as 80% since the 1970s. [6] We must stop the harvesters from entering parts of the Antarctic. Sign now to make an Antarctic sanctuary a reality.
